Covid-19 information

Updated 18/03/2020 09:00

If anyone is worried but does not have symptoms, they should visit NHS Inform or call 0800 028 2816

Where a service user has no symptoms, there is currently no need for careworkers to change their approach, as long as they are following normal infection control procedures. Where a service user is symptomatic , their GP or the local Health Protection Team:

01382 596976 / 01382 596987 (Dundee)
or
01382 660111 (Out Of Hours) and ask for Public Health On Call.

KEY MESSAGES

Reduce the risk of transmission by the usual infection control procedures for respiratory infections, including:

  • Avoiding direct hand contact with your eyes, nose and mouth
  • Maintaining good hand hygiene - washing hands with soap and water or alcohol-based hand sanitizer: after coughing or sneezing, after going to the toilet, before eating and drinking
  • Avoiding direct contact with people that have confirmed cases of the illness and avoiding using their personal items such as their mobile phone
  • Covering your nose and mouth when coughing or sneezing with disposable tissues and disposing of them in the nearest waste bin after use and then wash hands or use an alcohol-based hand sanitiser
  • Where self-isolation is in effect, regular (daily) cleaning of all hard surfaces, phones and computers/tablets
  • Facemasks are not necessary where there is no confirmed case, but all normal PPE should be used (disposable gloves and aprons), washing hands with soap and water following PPE removal, as is standard good practice for infection control

A video reminder of WHO-recommended hand hygiene technique can be found here
